What is ambulatory care?

Ambulatory care is healthcare provided to patients who are hospitalized for less then 24 hours. Ambulatory care is also known as outpatient care.

Ambulatory care typically takes place within physician medical office, clinics, ambulatory surgical centers, and other locations where there is no overnight hospitalization. Many hospitals provide ambulatory care for patients that are not admission for 24 hours or greater.
