What is compliance?

In the world of medicine, compliance refers to the adherence to medical advice by a patient. Patients are not required to comply with the doctor's directions, but they generally do. This is because noncompliance is often risky, putting the health of the patient in peril. When at the hospital, if a patient wishes to leave or act against the advice of a physician, they must sign forms denoting that they are making the decision.
