What is ERISA?

ERISA is a federal law that sets minimum standards for most voluntarily established pension and health plans in private industry to provide protection for individuals in these plans.[1]

ERISA stands for the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974. It is a comprehensive and complex statute that federalizes the law of employee benefits, including employer provided health insurance.
