What is a health hazard?

A health hazard generally refers to a chemical or action which is potentially detrimental to the health of individuals. Health hazards are factors in many occupations. Precautions are taken to avoid negative consequences of health hazards. The precautions vary depending on the nature of the hazard.

In healthcare, health hazards could be in the form of radiation, chemicals, improper use of tools, etc. The most common precautions taken in an average hospital to avoid the usual hazards are surgical masks, gloves, and thorough handwashing. In a hospital or healthcare setting, guarding against health hazards is especially important. The concentration of disease and sensitive treatments creates a hotbed of health hazards.
