No one plans to get sick or hurt, but most people need medical care at some point. Health insurance covers these costs and offers many other important benefits.[1]

Health insurance is a type of insurance that covers the cost of healthcare expenses. These expenses are generally related to illnesses, injuries and health conditions, but may also be related to promoting health and wellness. Expenses usually include medical, surgical, drug prescription, and other healthcare services.

Health insurance is typically arranged in the form a defined health insurance plan (also known as a health insurance policy).

Depending on the type of health insurance coverage, either the insured pays costs out-of-pocket and is then reimbursed, or the insurer makes payments directly to the provider.
