What is open enrollment?

Open enrollment is a specified period of time during which individuals may enroll in or change health insurance plans each year.

If an individual does not sign up for health insurance during the open enrollment, they probably cannot sign up for health insurance until the next open enrollment period or if certain special situations arise.

In certain situations, such as if one has had a birth, death or divorce in their family, individuals may be allowed to enroll in a plan outside of the open enrollment period.
