What is a hospital?

A hospital is a physical institution providing healthcare with specialized medical staff and equipment. Traditionally, a hospital is arranged by various departments, each of which provide specialized care services. Hospitals usually provide a combination of ambulatory and inpatient services.

In the U.S., hospitals are defined and conform to state licensure laws.
