What is Medicaid?

Medicaid is a health insurance program for individuals and families with limited financial resources. Medicaid beneficiaries including eligible low-income adults, children, pregnant women, elderly adults and people with disabilities.

Each U.S. state government designs and administers its own version of the Medicaid program, but primary oversight is handled by the U.S. Federal government. Each state government funds its Medicaid program. The Federal government reimburses each state for a share of their Medicaid expenditures.
